Medical Director UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of Telstra Health, has been announced as one of eight suppliers on the Tech Innovation Framework by NHS Digital. This follows a
successful bid to join a new framework designed to increase innovation and choice in the primary care IT market.

The Tech Innovation Framework aims to empower GPs and commissioners by giving them access to a wider range of digital products, enabling them to deliver better care. The
framework will be a blueprint for introducing the next generation of standards for IT systems, with prospective suppliers required to deliver six core functions in general practice – patient
information maintenance, appointments management, recording consultations, prescribing, referral management and resource management.

Amy Glees, Director of Product and Technology, Medical Director said: “Our goal is to enable ideal healthcare, so we are delighted that our bid for the new Tech Innovation Framework was
successful. The framework has been designed to encourage innovation and new ways of working and to support future modularisation of clinical IT systems. It will support the next
generation of primary care and ensure that the digital care services catalogue meets the needs of health care professionals.”

This is the third framework to launch under the Digital Care Services Catalogue and will run in parallel to the GPIT Futures and Digital First Online Consultation and Video Consultation
frameworks.

Highlights of the Tech Innovation Framework include:

  • Providing clinically safe and useful digital services and data services for patients and general practice, ensuring minimal disruption to care for citizens as new tech standards or suppliers are introduced;
  • Moving to open, modern, cloud native architectures, with consistent technical and data standards;
  • Reforming the commercial landscape of GP and primary care IT to provide an open, dynamic and competitive market;
  • Putting NHS and patient users at the centre of the design, underpinned by user research and with regular iterations.

Suppliers will also have to meet all the Standards on the Digital Care Services Catalogue including the new GP IT Futures Tech Innovation Standard.
