Dr Foster launches the Health Luminary Awards

The awards programme is divided into two sections, with six award categories in total.  The first will be based on submissions, encouraging organisations to showcase how they are driving transformation and improving care through data and technology. The second will be based on analyses of data from Hospital Episode Statistics and publicly available datasets, and features awards for three categories: quality and patient safety, efficiency, and commissioning for better outcomes.

In the submissions section, the categories are: innovation with data, innovation with data in obstetrics and gynaecology and digitally savvy CEO or board. Every year one of the categories will focus on a specialty area and for 2020 this will be obstetrics and gynaecology.

Organisations can view the criteria for each category and submit their entry before the Thursday 5 March deadline. The shortlisted organisations for all categories will be announced on Thursday 27 February. You can find out more information about entering the awards here.

In the second section, indicators have been chosen to provide an assessment of performance and, where possible, scoring has been based on NHS targets. The data analyses will shine a light on trusts and clinical commissioning groups that are meeting or exceeding national targets in quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.

For each of these three categories there will be a Luminary award for the overall winner and a most improved award for the organisation that has demonstrated the biggest improvement, based on data from financial years 2017 and 2018.
